Yesterday, my friend Chef, her nieces, nephew, and my crew all went to a local man-made island with sandy beaches (a rarity in WA). We had to take a small boat which launches every 15 minutes to get to the island, and we got there right at low tide. You can only swim on the west side of the island as the east side is fairly deep. WEST SIDE!! (sorry, flashback). The west side is so shallow, and especially at low tide, you can walk really far out. The only downside was that Ju Ju still is not especially fond of sand, but he gradually loosened up a little. Mainly, he just wanted to eat "'nacks." SWK, of course, played with Chef's nieces who are 7 and 5 and are good friends of ours. Bounce, of course, played by himself in the wet sand and had a great time, never complaining unless he got cold. It was in the 70s with a little bit of wind, so it was a bit chilly at times, but it would have been a perfect day to go to the beach with a book and blanket sans children. However, since that's not likely to occur in this lifetime, it was still a pretty awesome day!
And photos to fill you in on the visuals:
Someone thinks he needs coffee to deal with this treachery. Doesn't he look like a little old man?
This one makes me think of the "Chariots of Fire" theme song. Not sure why. Maybe it's the ribs sticking out or something?
We're so ill-prepared for beach life that I grabbed four of my big spoons to facilitate digging. I think I made it home with all four!
This picture describes Ju Ju perfectly at the beach. Either he won't move (literally will stand still until I pick him up) or he is saying "Blech!" the whole time! Usually, it's "Mami...blech....Mami....blech!" AND standing still!
Hey Cuz,
ReplyDeleteNice to see pictures of the boys and read about your funny experiences at the beach. Glad that your weather has cooled a bit, after that horrible heat wave ya'll were so unprepared for recently. Happy belated birthdays to Bounce and Ju Ju!
Love,
Cousin Deb from California
