This will be my third time reading through the Bible in 90 Days with Mom's Toolbox. Until last March when I finished the first time through, I had never read the Bible all the way through with a plan. I've read all of the books of the Bible, but I had never read the whole Bible from cover to cover.
That all changed when I stumbled upon the B90 program and thought, "Surely I can do this." Lo, and behold, I did! And then in the summer, I did it again! I mentored a group the last go around and will be doing that again this time.
Why would I encourage anyone to read through that many pages of THE most important book that fast? Several reasons, I think. One of the main ones is the fact that the Bible is one story, God's story. When one reads through so quickly, the main themes continue to 'stick out' and the repetition helps. From one 'story' to the next, one can see God's themes: calling, restoration, judgment, grace and mercy. Ultimately, of course, all of these themes point to their fulfillment in Christ.
Another reason is the sense of accomplishment that I felt that I stuck with it. It actually takes discipline to actually accomplish this task. I can't think of many tasks that require the discipline yet is really not that hard. It's not "hard" to sit and read for 45 minutes to an hour daily for 88 days, yet somehow I always find other "shiny things" that get my attention and take my focus off the Word. BUT when I'm accountable to others (Amy, other mentors, my mentorees) suddenly it's not any harder but easier!
Anyway, for all that, I'm happy to be joining in again. If you're interested, and haven't signed up to read along with us, hop over to Amy's at Mom's Toolbox and sign up (you don't have to have a blog to join in!).
Hey, it's Shawntele form group 15! Thanks for volunteering to mentor those of us who are reading through for the first time. I look forward to connecting more with you!
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm in your group for reading the Bible in 90 days. I didn't receive an email from you because they didn't receive my response saying I was going to participate. My email has a nasty habit of sending things to folks bulk mail. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know! :) My name is Danielle Aikens, and I posted on the check in. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I do see those themes that you are talking about and it is so eye opening to read Judges and Kings so quickly and see what a faithful God we worship. Thanks. Ruthanna
